Last week, I decided on the topic of natural language processing as the subfield I want to focus on in machine learning for ISM 2. Hence, I decided to research to understand the complexities and theory of natural language. I mainly focused on machine translation to learn about translation between languages and deep dive into the human aspect of perceiving text.
One of the fascinating concepts for me was the fact that from feelings to thoughts to purpose, many of these often subjective topics could be analyzed by the machine when we account for the context of the text. Furthermore, many of the advanced technologies we use daily depend on this context, like Google autocomplete, Grammarly, and even Google Translate. The concept excites me to learn more about language translation as it has so many intricacies and complexities that we must account for to understand the text truly. I will also continue my interest by researching other aspects of natural language processing, such as text style, sentiment analysis, and language generation. I hope to learn more from professionals in the field and use this opportunity to create something of my own in my original work.
So see you next week, same place, same time.
