This last week, we had the ISM Business Symposium which posed a wonderful opportunity for us to learn and network with other students and professionals through mock interviews, networking stations, and panels with business professionals! The experience was fabulous as it opened me up to new people and helped me extend my understanding as an ISM 2 student to other students. I also took part in many of the discussions and used the opportunity to think about the mentorship part of ISM this year. I was able to understand my values and the concepts I want to focus on with ISM to be more prepared for the field of machine learning!

Furthermore, I was able to perform two research interviews with professionals who are currently machine learning engineers. By interacting with people who had a first-hand understanding of the field, I was able to learn so much about machine learning and natural language processing! I got their insight on career paths, areas of focus such as system design and business understanding, specific resources and pointers to start with natural language processing, and a deeper understanding of the possibilities of my original work. I think the experiences in machine learning understood from a professional's viewpoint are very crucial to understand the crux of the field. I feel that with these two research interviews, I am more prepared to take a deep dive and decide on the topics I want to explore in natural language processing! In the next few weeks, I aspire to meet more professionals to help my understanding of the topic and my original work!
